David has been around music all of his life. With an artistic family background and writing ability that is far advanced for his years, everyone knew David was born to be on the stage. Take a look on this page to see a small history of David and his journey.

The Cook Family Singers were originally formed in 1885 by David J Cook and his wife Martha, who hailed from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

After Davids parents' divorce, the group continued without Donnell, but in 1980,
the group disbanded because of June's health issues.
He continued singing both gospel and secular music.

In the early 80's David was already a popular teenage heartthrob and was already touring around the world.
When most kids graduate from high school, they are usually still trying to figure out what they will be doing for a career. When David L. Cook graduated he had already been performing professionally all over the world, for more than a decade.

David's career and life almost came to a screeching halt in 1984 when at 16 years old was hit head on by a drunk driver.
The accident left him in serious condition.
But he survived!!

Always wanting to better himself, David has always had a thirst for knowledge and learning.
In 1990, David was diagnosed with
a dissociative disorder and psychogenic amnesia
which was brought on by an abusive father.
The doctors had thought he was having a stroke.
In 1999 Cook's story was used as a lead story with The 700 Club


On November 11, 2009, Cook was diagnosed with a parathyroid tumor in his neck. Doctors assessed that the tumor was pressing against his vocal cords making it virtually impossible for him to perform.
He was treated at Vanderbilt University Medical Center
Update: David is still being treated for throat tumors through medication.

Always the comedian, this picture of David with a hearse would take on a whole new meeting, in a business venture later in life. David has not only been successful in his music career but also as an astute businessman.
